Why Does 60 Make Perfect?

Why does 60 make perfect?  Heck I don’t know, but it does seem to be about the number of items on my life altering lists.  Yes, sometimes 59 and sometimes 61, but just in case some of my entries are repetitive or irrelevant let’s go with 60.

I have always been a list maker, so it was not unusual for me back in 2001 to make a list recommended by Dr. Phil.  I know we all have our opinions about Dr. Phil, even my ex-husband.  Ex-husband was my husband when my first list of 60 happened.  He was reading a book by Dr. Phil called Relationship Rescue  which brought him to some crazy ideas about how to make our marriage work.  I on the other hand was watching The Dr. Phil Show and getting some crazy ideas about how to get out of a failing marriage.

Dr. Phil shared a statistic that I remembered from my intro to sociology class–“It takes six years to leave a marriage once you start thinking about it.”, or at least that is what I interpreted.  It also was the statistic, be it true or false, that changed my life suddenly instead of gradually.  Dr. Phil then went on to recommend making a list of 10 things you love about your mate, and so I did.  To my surprise I could not stop there.  I went on to add things about my past mates that I loved, then it was quite easy at to add things I hated about my old mates and current husband.  Before I knew it, I had 61 items on this list.

That was a long time ago, the list was well used and finally lost, but always existing in the forefront of my mind.  Until now.

Now this list will be in my hands and your hands as I gradually add detailed entries about each point.
